I liked the very special effects, the gay music and the electricity going every where. The fights were a bit long

Big Trouble in Little China [1986]

It’s been awhile I know, but worth the wait I’m sure. Today’s movie, Big Trouble in Little China, directed by John Carpenter, was yes another 80′s movie, but I don’t care what anyone says I love it. It contains every stereotype in it from the Chinese, ancient magic man [Victor Wong], with the special potion that makes you strong, the evil Asian warlord [James Hong] and his lackeys [Carter Wong, Peter Kwong, James Pax] , the all American, kick ass, clueless, but with a heart the size of Texas white guy [Kurt Russell], the perky, full of spunk white girl [Kim Cattrall] and the Chinese childhood sweetheart [Suzee Pai] with green eyes who gets kidnapped by an evil Chinese gang.

The only thing that I didn’t really like was the end when he doesn’t kiss Kim Cattrall and just hits the road, it took away from the cheekiness of the whole film, it like so many other scenes was expected, but not received. I mean don’t get me wrong, I get the whole Humphrey Bogartness of it….I just don’t like it. Other than that I say go rent it, Netflix it, find it and watch it. I give it a four out of six super stars, my highest rating yet!

Stripes [1981]

I watched this film last night and already find it hard to remember.

I have watched three 80′s comedies in a row and am beginning to dislike movies. Some things I am learning from these films are, yes guys are delusional and second, maybe I really don’t like Bill Murray as an actor.

This film is another 80′s guy flick for those who lean more towards the nerdy and insecure side. I faded in and out of conscientiousness while watching it.

I give it a 1.

Police Academy [1984]

When Orwell predicted what 1984 would be like I don’t think he ever imagined the likes of the first Police Academy movie…

What can I say about this film? It was not the first time watching this film, but was the first time watching it as an adult. I forgot how films in the 80′s were still using terms like fag and homo in a derogatory way. At one point in the movie Hightower wakes up Mahoney at 2am to beg him to teach him how to drive. Mahoney responds with, “All right. Let’s go. Sleeping is for fags.” and lines from Lt. Thaddeus Harris’s two closeted, shaved head, lackeys say things like, “How’re you doing, “Ma-homo”?” after being held hostage for hours by gay, biker, leather daddies at the Blue Oyster bar. There are a few placed racists remarks in the movie, only to have Hightower defend all blacks while no other race helps out, in fact they only apologize for the way they feel out of fear. No one in the film ever thinks twice about their homophobic remarks and unfortunately there were no good, gay Bears to defend the homos in Police Academy. It was a different time in film.

The most disappointing thing to me was I remember loving Sgt. Larvell “Motor Mouth” Jones and all his fresh sound effects back when I was a kid. This time when I watched the film he only annoyed me.

I give it a 2.

Police Academy

Police Academy, never seen this movie before. Funny. Another family movie. I believe I only had seen the cartoons made from it, in France. I can barely remember them anyway.

I am sure you who are reading it, have seen it already. So anyway. I almost cried in the end.

Caddyshack

You never know when the movie is really going to start. A lot of small jokes throughout the movie. Nothing crazy. Good for a good sweet time around your family.

Oh and Cara wanted me to add, yes it was the first time I was watching this movie!
